haven been posting anything for quite some time, so i thought maybe i'll pop by and write a lil smth.

having to take the chem and maths aptitude tests really made things a lot worse. and it's no helping that i cant get myself to sit down and study well for a gd 2 or 3 hrs, coz it's really too distracting at home. and it's not that gd staying up late each night too.

and it's just 6 days away, with hw to be completed as well. totally kills the holiday mood. come to think of it, i haven really been enjoying a lot of the holidays. sigh, but i guess complaining isnt gonna help.

i'll just have to keep working on it.

discipline,discipline,discipline.

thats Davy (biomechanics) playing badminton with jo and aver. lol they were quite free.

julian (strength and conditioning) training the sailors

aver and jo playing pingpong at the reception place. damn cool, theres a basketball hoop even. u can just play there luh if u're waiting for ppl, or just bored. and aver, jo were super cool, it's table tennis, but they dont need the table. LOL, look at how far they're standing. they did it squash style. haha!

not sure if u can see, but it's the images from the 6 different cameras from different angle, so using a software, u can join the images and form a 3D image of the player. u can literally turn him around using a mouse. (y)

biomechanics, look at all the cameras around, they each cost 200k. LOL. so after we heard that, we were super careful, not to trip over the stands.

jo and the 70k threadmill which can go like super fast, spriters are strapped and forced to run at imba speed to train.

the equipments at the physiology department, they carry out tests here, to test the fitness and other stuff. lactic level, haemoglobin level and etc.

ether and the gym was behind. super cool equipment, not those u see outside. theres like air pressure machine, they dont use weights for that.

oh, thats me doing the VO2 max test. bascially, they increase the weight every 4 seconds, and u just keep cycling till u cannot anymore. and the computer takes the reading, the oxygen used and stuff lo.

thats bout it all, will get the pic we took from faizul from ether then put it up. oh and jo and ether went for singpore slingers game. faizul was like the physio so he had free tickets and stuff. lol. ether went mad over the players luh. k so anw, theres some athletes whom we see for almost every day there and it's really nice when they just smile and joke with u when they see u. lol.
theres this silat guy whom we swam with for the hydro-rehab, yeah, he was really nice to us, talking and joking when we saw him around.
k, oh and weiyang's musical was awesome. went on thurs with kc they all, had so much fun laughing at their stupid jokes la.
k, really tired, another match tmr. semis again, but i dont wanna let the same thing happen again.
fight, guorong.

internship at sports council has been real cool. it was truly and eye opener for me, and i nv knew sports science was so much fun. anw, i'm really tired and mood-less to post today, so i'll just post some pictures up! today's the last day alr however, been a really short 5 days intern. but we saw and learnt so so much. really grateful to faizul for arranging so much stuff for us, and genuinely wanting us to take away as much as possible. and of course, thanks to all the other sports scientist too, who didnt mind having us around and disrupting them from doing their stuff. and of course, to weiyang, jo, aver and ether. lol,we had so much fun la.

k actually, maybe, i'll just summarize the 5 days. LOL

first day.
we had a 'orientation' thing prepared by the coporate part of Singapore sports council (SSC), it was really boring coz it was like tailored for the new full timers, but somehow they got us to join in too.. we all almost fell asleep during that long long session. and it was a bad bad start.

afternoon got better, faizul intro-ed us to all the 5 aspects of sports science, physiology, biomechanics, nutrition, psychology, strength and conditioning. then he brought us around the place, saw lots of super cool equipment, and pity we didnt get to see the floatation tank, where athletes literally float in it, coz of the salt added to the water. and they watch videos or movies in that state, it's to let them relax and stuff.

then we sat down and had a lil chat with him, to ask him qn bout our own sports and etc. so thats bout it for the day.

2nd day.

2nd day was much cooler, i got to do a VO2 max test, that tests the fitness of athletes, it measures how much oxygen your body can use per minute. weiyang sprained ankle and jo had training, so i did it. had to take blood test before it to measure lactic level and stuff, super professional. so my reading was 43.9kg of air per min per kg. it's considered slightly above average only, gd athletes are like 50 plus to 60 plus. and lance armstrong the cyclist, he had like 80 plus, which was imba and also one of the reasons why he's so fit and always winning.
then apart from that, we did couple of blood tests too. and that afternoon, a sailor came for testing, bascically, they always get athletes sent by their coaches to come for testing to see if they're fit or what aspect they need to work on, so we tagged along and saw how they test athletes lo, so this guy, he's called, JOEL PANG, (LOL, AUNTIE!) from sports sch, and he's super strong. theres a test called the hand grip test, it's to test strength of your grip, and he got 50.0 watt. which is enough to damage a human's skull we heard. ...

wednesday.
we went to the mountbatten pool for aqua-rehab and joined in their program too. and to us, it felt more like training rather than a rehab session, coz the exercises were super strenuous and required a lot of strength, we had to like stepped on a float and moved with our arms, and then hold the float and move by 'running' literally in water. got cramps here and there, but i survived luh. and it was pretty interesting.

after lunch, it was psychology session. lol, bad bad timing, we were super drained from the morning and afternoon, we had to sit in an aircon room, with comfortable couches and listen to the psychologist talk. hahah! luckily, he was a teacher once and he was really easy going, got us to get coffee and tea and interacted more with us. but it was pretty interesting so it didnt feel lethargic at all. then he taught us some relaxation techniques and imagery. and then we asked him qn, on some issues in the psychology aspect where we needed help, like boosting confidence and stuff.

so day 4.

we saw realy cool stuff, it was biomechanics and they arranged special cameras, and it was to capture images of athletes and analyse their actions when doing some moves, like angle or smashing and stuff. all of us were pretty amazed by the technology and we even got to try it. they got us to smash and they captured it. and the guy davy, he is actually an engineer, but biomechanics do not require much bio knowledge, so thats y he's there.

and afternoon was nutrition. the really nice lady nutritionist got us in a room and spoke to us, and then did some urine test, with my urine. LOL, and a skinfold test, i'm almost fat-free luh. hahha. and she got us the stuff national athletes eat, the recovery food and all. we had a go at every food and she even gave us a whole box of granola bars. hahha! oh and a cook book too! it was super useful, coz she explained to us and told us what we shld eat and stuff for what purposes and some interesting experiences she've had. like ppl coming to her and wanting to lose 15 kg in 2 months. and how she almost killed an athlete coz she forgot bout that particular person's allergy. lol.

then after that, we saw davy still meddling with the cameras, trying to fix them properly to minimize the errors, so we helped him a lil too. by being models and do smashes for him to trial the cameras. hahah. and it's really physics luh. vectors, velocity and stuff.

last day.

we went down to toapayoh first thing in the morning to sit in for balestier khalsa football club's training. it was just a light one, to maintain their fitness so there wasnt anything much too. some of they were really slack and we laughed so much la. hahah. will nv forget the malay goalkeeper in blue long sleeves.

then we came back to SSC, faizul was away on workshop, so hongchoo, another lady who has worked there for 30 years debriefed us a lil. we did the feedback form and reflection, then wandered off to the gym to look at the sailing team training. then they started playing badminton with davy, aris(psychology) and one more guy, who's a strength and condition trainer. LOL, they had nth to do. were really slack la
oh and we saw the superreds player train a lil too, they were super gd. super reds a korean football club in s.league
so basically thats bout it, oh and we were super lucky, coz on 27th and 28th, davy is conducting a research on national shuttlers, to correct their actions and stuff, so he asked if we wanna be there to help. and of course we agreed, it was just so so cool.

these words might not mean much coz they really couldnt convey the same experience we felt and went thru these days. thanks to all those who helped us so much, faizul, hongchoo, daniel, joseph, aris, latiff, the nutritionist, davy, and the rest.

got back from the prize presentation a while ago. got the usual stuff, shoes, racket and pens. but there was a cert and medal that came with it too. unlike the last time at ashaway berita harian. so anw, the doubles i lost to, got thrashed by jeffery and kia hwee. scores below 10 and below 5 even.

and it sure felt gd being on the podium not knowing which camera to face. hahah, there were lotsa ppl taking photos of us, but i dont seem to recognise any of them, nor did the other pair of joint third winners too. so anw, i didnt manage to get a photo. -.- didnt ask my parents to take photo too. i guess the medal's a gd enough recognition. leon is away on holiday, so i took on his behalf too. pity we couldnt be up there together, after being thru so much to get there.
and the reception after that was fantastic, with ppl to serve you even. lol. i sure hope my parents enjoyed it all today, afterall, i aint able to let them feel that way very often.

it's amazing how u can feel the same sense of disbelief twice in the same day. cept that it's in the totally opposite way.

csc's finally over. and i'm super proud tho we lost our semi finals when we could hv won easily. but i guess everything's got its place and time and we were just not meant for it. perhaps the rj match was really too mentally exhausting, perhaps we werent feeling well. whichever it is, we lost and well, thats it.

but still, i'm really proud. we fought super hard even tho i think no one in the hall expected us to win, even we didnt expect it ourselves, we just played every point by point and before we know it, we're fighting for every shot alr. and it sure was tough to break them.

14-21, 21-19, 23-21

made lots of mistakes during the first set and beginning of 2nd set, but somehow we got fired up and got lotsa points in a row to catch up to 8-8, from there on, it's one point to each side with every service, so it became like, 9-8, then 9-9, 10-9, then 10-10 like that. so anw, we managed to get to 18-15, then from there we hanged on to win it 21-19 lo. it was super scary coz they're super experienced and the score was so close, luckily we got the 2nd set.

and we both had the 'phew, mission accomplished, fought to rubber set, gd enough alr la' feeling after the 2nd set! hahah! it was only till we managed to match up to them till the 15s or 16 point then we started trying to convince ourself to just play point by point and not give up, and to fight on. this feeling kept cropping up la.

so anw, in the later part of the game, we really threw everything away and just fought alr, really gave it everything for every shot, falling and diving everywhere to save it. and we were down 18-20, it was really like almost the end alr, but we managed to crawl back into the game.

and when it was 19-20, when we thought all was lost, they kept smashing and aloy was tapping in front of the net alr, but we managed to save it running all around the shawn smashed into the net, that was like the turning point totally.

then stuff happened and they made errors. and we won it.

and it felt totally amazing. it was super dramatic from how we turned it around during the 2nd set and especially the later part of the 3rd set. and really, i felt super proud when we won it and i almost cried la.

it feels super gd, when no one believed that u can do it, but u fight like theres no tmr and got it done. and it feels even better when u hv a reason to fight for. we fought for tj, we fought for our pride, and everyone who believed in us (thats if there were any to begin with). and we totally took our revenge today after losing to them 2 years back, and getting thrashed by aloysious in pri school. LOL

and i wished the team saw how we played. we fight like this for every match we play, and i tell you, we'll make it even to toapayoh sports hall. but right now, theres a lot to improve on, and we really gotta get our mental strength good. we really lost by that in the semis.

so the thing that kept me going, was doing myself and tj proud, and not letting myself and tj and of course leon and everyone who believed in us down. we trained hard and it paid off of course we nv gave up hope too.

during the match, i just kept telling myself, 'fight tj, fight.' 'k, this point, this point' and of course the occasional shouts when we win points and the 'nvm leon, it's ok, slowly' hahah.

so we came down, really proud. and it feels just like a dream, always dreamt of doing something like that. so to me, it really was a dream come true. i thought ashaway win was gd enough, but this time round csc. it was even sweeter and we deserved to be there. actually right now, i'm still not totally convinced we did it. lol.

and there were so many ppl watching our match, and i feel even more proud wearing the tj shirt and winning them. (they wore their rj pe shirt)

impossible is nth ? it wasnt even impossible in the first place.

:)

ogl, training/match, home, sleep.

k, so i'm here again to just write something.

it's december alr, but somehow i dont feel as tho i've really done much, played much, enjoyed much. i guess it's the trainings every wk that made it that way. like monday training, then tue will be spent resting at home, then wed training again, and it'll be mid wk alr. then thu will be resting and waiting for friday's training to come. then after that, badminton on saturday, and slack around on sunday. include mass dance sessions somewhere, and there u hv it, my schedule for a wk.

yeah, it's pretty boring and considering the time i always wake up, half the day is gone even before i start doing anything. and then the cycle will repeat, sleeping late and waking up late and on and on..

went to changi for dinner ytd and it reminded me of the slc times. it's supposed to be like our highlight for sportsxcel, but somehow it didnt really feel much like one. as in, it wasnt as fulfilling and exciting as i thought out to be. but then it's all too late now. what darsh said that day really made sense, she said that ironically, she didnt want slc to come, coz we all know that it'll prolly be the last thing we'll be doing and after that, we'll be stepping down and handing it on. and of course none of us would wanna pass it on without, like what david said, leaving a legacy, being part of something great, contributing to something memorable.

trainings have been.. i dont know how to put it. coz if someone chances upon it, it'll prolly be unpleasant. but what i wanna say is just that, lets not wang4 en1 fu4 yi4. cant think of the english version of it right now, it's just to not forget the gd things that ppl hv done to us. like how we were allowed the chance to get into the school through appeals even though there were better players than us. i was rummaging thru my file the other day and i saw the letter of undertaking of the appeal. one of it says to give my best in the pdp i appealed thru and also in my studies, and what you will be asked to leave the school if u failed in any one of the criteria or smth.

i'm very grateful for all the chances that have been given to me, a spot in the school, and even sportsxcel. so to me, it's not just bout doing it for myself, it's also like returning a favour. coz i know if not for this chance, i wouldnt even hv been in TJ.
then, how bout you. think bout what u're doing, and whether it's enough, or even right.

i'm feeling the shame too, unfortunately. and please don't let my effort go to waste because of things outside of my control.
